Designer Crush: Valentino

Valentino is my most favorite designer. It all is so feminine and vintage with a modern flair. I think these Valentino looks would all work so well for the rehearsal/dinner... and many more date nights. ; }
The carefully placed ruffles tend to create a modern/vintage look right out of the 1960s. Yum!

A vintage detail. Garland. Not the traditional idea either.

I've totally flipped for this gorgeous garland that Pam Garrison created using coffee filters.  Yes, coffee filters!  She doesn't give full d.i.y. instructions on her site, but the process seems pretty straightforward and uncomplicated.  I think the beauty of this project is that so much is left up to your own personal taste.  Mix in some bright colors if that's your thing, maybe string on some beads if you'd like... anything goes!  The sky's the limit. Use it as decor for the wedding, showers, reception, outdoors {tangled with lights}, etc. Then take it home and use it as shown below. Here's another variation that Pam came up with.
So lovely, right?!

Vera Does Davids Via Bride Chic

"Yup, you heard right, by early Spring 2011, Vera Wang will debut at David's Bridal with a collection of gowns under $1,500. Also in the works are bridal accessories, bridesmaid dresses and even shoes to be brought out in the future. It will be interesting to see if the level of fabrics and workmanship can come near that of which you find in her other collections and flagship store. " Bride Chic

Not hiring a wedding planner?

This might seem like a silly tip, but it’s a good one! Couple’s do not realize how much a wedding planner does. So, if you decide to forgo hiring one, please remember to do this - bring empty cardboard boxes! There is a lot to pack up after a wedding for the couple to take home. Leftover cake, leftover food, leftover everything! If you are letting your guests take home the floral arrangements, do them a favor and have a box for them to sit the arrangement in so they do not spill water everywhere. The list of items is endless!

Centerpieces that really tell a bit about the B&G.

Just saw another great idea... For each table at the reception have a special date for the bride and groom. Now in my version I would add his story of this encounter on one side an hers on the other, and a picture if there is one. Put some flowers and other centerpiece decor around and you have a conversation starter. It is really nice for those who don't know these precious details of what make up the bride and room.

What are your memorable days?
Day Couple Met
First Date
Meeting Parents
Proposal

This is a great DIY project!

A couple gives a quarter of their wedding budget to help the Haiti quake victims. KARE reports.

MAPLE GROVE , Minn. — Guests at the Bogen-Nicholson wedding in mid-June will have an interesting tidbit when they describe the couple’s big day: The bride served peanut butter and jelly sandwiches.
Duluth native Leah Bogen and her fiance, Will Nicholson, were eating breakfast and chatting about wedding plans on Sunday morning in their Maple Grove, Minn., home. At the same time, Bogen was reading the newspaper and was struck by a story from Haiti that included leg amputations and rough medical conditions.
The contrast of reading about the devastation from the earthquake while planning a big party struck her. She made a decision right then to donate the money they planned to spend on the wedding dinner — 25 percent of their entire budget — to people in Haiti. Her fiance didn’t need any convincing.
“She totally blew me away,” said Nicholson, a graduate of the University of Minnesota Duluth. “I’m still in awe. I was very impressed. How do you say anything but yes to that? It’s such a selfless and thoughtful thing. It’s hard to get excited about planning a wedding when other people are having such a terrible time.
“We’ve got friends and family who are happy and healthy and nearby and well-fed. My family doesn’t need another fancy meal.”
Within four hours, they had decided on an organization — Partners in Health — and had sent off $2,500. Nicholson works in a health care field, and was familiar with their work.
“It’s an organization that has been in Haiti for a while, and we know they’ll be there forever,” said Bogen, who graduated from UMD in 2007.
Leah’s mother, Kathy Bogen, described the couple as humanitarians and altruistic, and said this decision is in step with the way they live their life.
“It was nice that they could look at what resources they have and realize they could change their plans to help other people,” said Kathy Bogen. “They’re very amazing young people. It gives me a lot of hope.”
Leah Bogen and Nicholson were introduced by their parents over Thanksgiving in 2008. Their families both have cabins on Loon Lake, just outside Grand Marais. They got engaged Oct. 1 and are planning an outdoor wedding in Mahtomedi, Minn., at Nicholson’s grandparents’ house.
“I don’t think I’ve ever given more than 50 bucks to anything,” Nicholson said. “It’s a great way to start our relationship. It’s a great gesture to say: ‘This is what we want to do; this is who we are for the rest of our lives.’ ”
As for whether they will really serve PB&J: That’s just one option. The dinner isn’t important, she said. Bogen is hoping that other people will follow their lead and find a creative way to give.
“Look at anything you might be able to cut, and help out a bit,” she said.
